Wildlife Facts You Should Know

Seals

NEW INFORMATION BY MARINE WILDLIFE REHABILITATORS INDICATE THAT SEALS FOUND ON THE BEACHES SHOULD HAVE INTERVENTION.

A HEALTHY SEAL PUP LOOKS LIKE A FAT SAUSAGE WHILE A SICK PUP RESEMBLES A MAN WITH A SUIT ON THAT LOOKS TOO BIG.

FOR MORE INFORMATION ON WHAT YOU CAN DO PLEASE CONTACT THE FOLLOWING REHABILITATION CENTRES.

What should you do?

If you come across an injured seal, the first thing to do is call for help.

In BC you can call the:

Vancouver Aquarium
at 604-258-SEAL(7325)

24 HR Marine Mammal Rescue Emergency Pager
604-735-4777

Island Wildlife Natural Care Centre, Salt Spring Island B.C.
250-537-0777

North Island Wildlife Recovery Association, Errington B.C.
250-248-8534

If you are outside BC, call your local Ministry of Water, Land and Air Protection or a reputable wildlife rehabilitation organization.

After you call, do not move the animal. Instead, stay with it, but be careful. It is wise to keep a healthy distance from a sick animal.

KEEP YOU DOGS AWAY FROM THE SEAL!
